NBA MVP RACE

With the NBA season approaching playoffs, the big question on everybodys mind is “Who is the leagues MVP?” According to an article on NBA.com, Kobe Bryant is in first in the standings followed by LeBron James.  The author says in the article how in the past three years the leagues best player (according to stats) has NOT won the MVP.

This year LeBron leads Kobe in almost all categories including Points Per Game, Rebounds Per Game, Assists Per Game, Blocks Per Game, and has a higher Field Goal Percentage.  If this years MVP choice follows the past 3 years, Kobe is still on his way to winning his first MVP.

One issue that is often disputed with the selection of the MVP is that numbers no longer matter.  I believe that numbers are not everything, especially in the NBA today.  I believe the selection should be made by who is the most efficient.  Shooting Percentage is more important to me than PPG. Even after saying this, I think Kobe deserves the MVP this year.  He has done more for his team overall than LeBron. The whole process of choosing the MVP is extremely objective.  The MVP award is becomes inflated to me and not worth as much because it is such an objective decision.

This would be the first MVP award that Kobe achieves in his entire 12 year career even though he made the all-star team every year of his career.  This year seems to point towards Kobe winning it. In the beginning of the year he was skeptical about the Laker team. Kobe was thinking about being traded because of the lack of support his team was giving him. After experiencing this, Jerry Boss, the Lakers Gm decided to go out and get Kobe someone to play with and put together a team capable of going all the way this year. The Lakers signed big-man Pau Gasol as the latest edition the the starting line-up. Kobe responded to this by saying “It shows a great deal of commitment from the organization,” and continued “It’s a matter of us just gelling now and putting it together,”… “We’ve got a great bench. We have a lot of length, a lot of versatility. Now it’s time to walk the walk.”

After this key edition, the Lakers moved to the top of their division, making a strong run to the playoffs, Kobe still leading the whole way.  Kobe has put together some spectacular games lately playing like he has something to prove. He showed great perseverance when he played a couple weeks with a broken finger. He just wrapped it and continued to play excellent basketball.

This could be the year for Kobe to finally achieve the one award that he never has, the MVP award. At this point of the season he has showed me enough to get my vote. He is playing confident and trying to prove to people that he has a name among the all-time greats. Kobe is trying to leave behind his legacy with extreme determination this year and he gets my MVP vote.

Don’t always believe what you read!

I was reading an article which caught my eye. It was one of the most recent blogs which talked about a 5,200 year old cartoon. The title caught my eye. This blog is about an ancient artifact found in Iran in the 1970’s. There is paintings on this “bowl” around the whole circumference of a goat and some trees. If you turn the bowl around, it appears to be an animation of the goat hoping towards a tree.  This seemed interesting to me, it was the first animation, and it dated back 5200 years!  I thought “wow, this is kinda neat”.  Then i was reading the comments just to see some feedback.  Many people realized that the animation on the top of the post was not at all accurate.  The background is completely static, not changing as the goat moves. This is virtually impossible to do with a paintbrush. Some of the other people found pictures of the real artifact and say there is only three different “scenes” on the artifact.

This just goes to show that the validity of things is not always what you think it is.  Right away, I will no longer go to this blog if I am looking for accurate information or facts. If it were his opinion on the artifact, then it would not have to be factual. I think this reflects not only a blog, but much of the media today.  The media contorts things to get more viewers and make some things seem more interesting than they may really be.  This artifact may not have been an animation.  There are only three pictures on it!  The author of this blog did a good job at getting views on his blog by having an attractive and interesting heading, but one can not or should not change the facts to do so.  I am not singling this particular blog out because there are many like this one and not only blogs. Other media such as the news, newspaper, and any other source of media use tactics such as this to attract an audience.

This is why I believe that one should not always believe what they read! The only real information one can obtain would be from a primary source, interpreted by oneself.  In this time and age a person almost has to be skeptical about anything they read. You have to interpret information received assuming that there is bias and false information included. I believe that everything would be more efficient if false information was tagged online or censored from television.  I am not against opinionated responses or anything like that. I think that is very important but I think in this time in society, a person must be very skeptical about anything they read, and take everything with a grain of salt.

This is my first Blog for unit two.  The first unit I did not do so well and I’m hoping that blogging will make this unit easier and perhaps more entertaining. I have never kept a blog before but i think the idea of blogging is an excellent way to network.  The closest I have came to writing everyday is on facebook, but blogging is something that i do not think i will mind doing.  Writing never really was my thing. I am more of a math, science type of person but blogging keeps my interest because I can read about perspectives and information about things I am interested in.  I am hoping that I can read some peoples blogs that share common interests with me such as sports, politics, cars.  I think it will make writing much more enjoyable for me.  So this is the first blog of many more to come, hopefully this Unit will be much more productive for me than the last!
